Dizzee Rascal has posted a series of tweets attacking BBC Radio 1, after they failed to playlist his tracks.
Using language that may make your eyes water, he fired expletives at the playlist compilers, presumably for removing his recent single with Will.i.am, Something Really Bad, or not playlisting new single Love This Town at all. He announced that “all this nice guy shit’s dead… Going against radio 1 aunt [sic] smart but I’m tired holding it down.”
He suggested that American urban artists get preferential treatment, allowing them to swear on air, and went after the station’s popular acoustic Live Lounge series: “Fuck Live Lounge! If I gotta keep fighting to get my shit played why bother doing someone else’s song so you can sell it on ur shitty comp!” After a couple of tweeters picked him up on his rant, he attacked them too, firing the c-word at a woman who criticised his spelling.
It all comes after a campaign for new album The Fifth that has failed to produce a top three hit. Something Really Bad, despite its lavish video and A-list guest, only made it to number 10 in the charts, as did the album. His collaboration with Robbie Williams managed to reach number 5, but Love This Town and earlier single Don’t Need A Reason failed to break the top 40.
