Lady Leshurr: Rapper reveals plans to ‘retire’ from music – Metro.co.uk

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Lady Leshurr has shared her plans to ‘retire’ from making music as she gears up to put out some unreleased albums.
The midlands-born rapper, 34, is known for her Queen’s Speech series of freestyles and has worked with a host of names over the years
The artist has a string of awards to her name including bagging the best female act at the MOBOs in 2016, as well as Best Rap/Grime Act in 2019.
But in late 2019 Leshurr took time out from her music career following the death of her sister, Carmen, aged just 39, from breast cancer.
In a recent chat with Metro.co.uk, she addressed her long break, as well as revealed plans for both a comeback – and retirement.
She told us: ‘Well, I actually stopped doing music, a lot of people might not know this, but because my sister passed in 2019 and I just could not write no matter how hard I tried.’
But she’s got ‘loads of material’ she’s eager to put out there for fans, continuing: ‘I’ve got two albums on my Mac from when I recorded it before – that’s definitely going to get released because I do want to retire.
‘There’s going to be a time where I want to retire, so I want to get them released before that happens.’
Teasing some of the collaborations fans will see, she promised inclusions from Musiq Soulchild and ‘a few people’.
‘That’s all to come,’ she added ‘And I’m gonna actually drop a carnival song soon because carnival is gonna be back!’
At the moment, Leshurr is fronting the reboot of MTV’s Pimp My Ride, which was originally hosted by rapper Xzibit, and ran from 2004 to 2007.
The rapper is on-hand throughout the six-parter to keep an eye on some incredible motoring transformations, made in collaboration with eBay.
On what it was like to be part of the hit series, Lady Leshurr concluded: ‘The only word I can use is overwhelmed because it is a part of my childhood. It reminds me of my childhood and spending time with my family.
‘It was just such a crazy, wild, entertaining show and just to have the opportunity to be the face of it and bring it back because I know so many people have missed it, it’s just so amazing.’
Elsewhere, it seems like she’s got a busy rest of the year to come, as she teased a ‘big’ secret project, as well as a potential book in the works.

She concluded: ‘There is a big thing that I’m going to be doing, I don’t even say anything yet, there are a few things.
‘I am trying to work on a book as well, so I want to get that sorted and released next year. But I feel that’s all I can say…’
